Waiver Wire Wrap Up Week 0: Post-Draft Waivers

The $32 Man

The $32 Man

On a typical Wednesday night of the first waiver period, there are at least a handful of sleepless GM’s counting down the seconds before midnight, anxiously waiting to scoop up unclaimed players. By Wednesday morning, usually 50+ moves are made with lots to talk about. This year… not so much. There were only 3 people online last night (Martin, Anthony, and Jeff) and only 1 page of FAAB bids with not a lot of sexiness besides a couple Jacksonville Linebackers and a Jet pass rusher. Yawn. So why did this change this year? I think the answer is quite simple:

For whatever reason, this year’s draft saw the most completeness from roster to roster. People actually drafted a fair amount of depth and relative to past years, most of everyone’s roster needs were addressed during the draft, leaving very little value on the wire. Interestingly enough, there were 216 players drafted this year, an increase of 23 over last year in spite of the fact that we actually reduced the total roster size by removing team defenses. I guess it’s true the league is getting smarter.

Noteworthy waiver wire moves:

  • Remember that you have until midnight today to adjust your roster per the Roster Rules. You must have no more than 14 offensive players
  • Jeff was the biggest spender as he usually he is every year. He dropped a whopping $97 last night
  • DE-Wilkerson was the highest paid acquisition at $32 to Jeff. Next highest bid was Martin with $16
  • LB-Posluszny was the second priciest at $25 to Jeff. He barely beat Sunny’s bid of $21
  • LB-Telvin Smith was picked up by Martin for $17. Jeff is probably happy the waiver priority tiebreaker kicked in here otherwise he’d have spent a grip on both Smith and Posluszny
  • WR-Sammie Coates cost Ed $18 more than he needed as the next highest bid was only $6
  • Steve and I are working on recording a podcast to recap the draft, let us know if you’d like to be a guest on the show
  • Power Rankings vote will be sent sometime today, make sure to vote as these picks will be worth Pick Em points and $W
