B-LG Week 6 Power Rankings: Chicks Rule This League

As I look up and down the standings, a few things come to mind. Danny seems intent on bucking the demotee curse as his team is putting on a much stronger showing than his demotee brothers did in their first year. After a stellar rookie season, the New Token Chick is not falling victim to the sophomore slump and is certainly proving that last year’s success was no fluke. Daryl was promoted to the BCS division and after 5 weeks is just 2-3 with the lowest points in the league. He was a darkhorse for promotion this year but those aspirations seem to be waning by the week. Mike had an abysmal 2016 season but has bounced back quite nicely this year, making saavy draft picks and staying active on the wire. But the real question is, who are the frontrunners? With Grace already expressing no interest in joining the majors, I think the race is wide open this year.

ICYMI: Podcast #4 with Min’s Top 5

Week 5 Quick Hits

  • Min and Roger executed a trade that sent Gronk to Roger for Engram and Howard. These 3 players combined for 7.6 points last week. Gronk was scratched, Engram donuted, and Howard just sucked.
  • After a sizzling start to the season, John has now dropped 2 in a row and is eerily reminded of his 2015 season when he started 3-0 and only to go 1-9 the rest of the way.
  • John also acquired AP, Buck Allen, and a 2018 6th round pick from Zak for Doug Baldwin (on bye this week) and a 2018 4th round pick
    • This is the first ever executed trade that involves future draft picks
  • With his 4th win of the season, Jason now has more wins than he had in his entire 2016 season (3-10)

1 Grace

RECORD: 4-1
LAST: 1

I don’t know what it is but I think there is a reverse curse in this league. Chicks just seem to own this league and that trend is certainly continuing this year. Since the league’s inception in 2010, the Old Token and Chick and New Token Chick are 7 for 7 in playoff appearances. When is the new single coming out though?

Commish’s Pick: WIN vs JC

A-League
Snipers

2 John A

RECORD: 3-2
LAST: 2

Don’t worry John. If Min won’t put you in the top 5, I will. Dalvin Cook left a huge hole on this team when he went down, but if AP turns out to be more than just a shell of his old self, the void Cook left behind may just be filled.

Commish’s Pick: WIN vs Min

I’m back

3 Danny

RECORD: 3-2
LAST: 3
TREND: uparrow 0

In spite of the poor showing last year in the A-LG, I still believe Danny has a very strong fantasy pedigree and it’s good to see him back on his horse and finding success this year. If Gurley continues his bounce back season, this team could go pretty far.

Commish’s Pick: WIN vs Zak

DirtyMikeAndTheBoys

4 Mike

RECORD: 4-1
LAST: 4

“It’s never too early to brag. The white guy is winning this time.” The white guy didn’t win that time, but brag away Mike. This is certainly success like I’ve never seen from you. Keep it up homie.

Commish’s Pick: LOSS vs Roger

5 Roger

RECORD: 3-2
LAST: 5
TREND: uparrow 0

It seems every year Roger is trading to a manager that he is playing that same week. But this one couldn’t have finished with a more unexpected result. In spite trading for Gronk only to find out he would be ruled out, Roger edged out a victory anyway, beating Min by just over a single point.

Commish’s Pick: WIN vs Mike

Brownton
Abbey

6 Zak

RECORD: 3-2
LAST: 6
TREND: uparrow 0

Honestly, I think Zak got the better end of this trade as I’m not a believer in Buck Allen and I think the jury’s still out on AP. It’s not a lopsided trade in any way but I would have preferred the Baldwin side if he was not on bye. The fact that he’s on bye makes this trade a lot more fair, in my opinion.

Commish’s Pick: LOSS vs Danny

Despacito

7 Fernando

RECORD: 2-3
LAST: 7
TREND: uparrow 0

Despacito has been oddly quiet this year. But I think his grammar and spelling are improving mildly.

Commish’s Pick: LOSS vs Max

JoelOsten

8 JC

RECORD: 2-3
LAST: 8
TREND: uparrow 0

JC was on the cusp of making it back into the A-LG last year but lost in the championship to Dom. That hangover effect may be haunting his season as JC has yet to get on track. Who the hell is Joel Osten though?

Commish’s Pick: LOSS vs Grace

BlOrB

9 Jason

RECORD: 4-1
LAST: 9
TREND: uparrow 0

Whoa whoa whoa, 4-1 Jason at #9?! Yeah that’s right. Although Min had BlOrB in his top 5, I am putting some disrespek on Jason purely for fun and because history tells me he will fall off. Since his 2011 championship season, BlOrBy has had no more than 5 wins in a single season. This is by far his best start in his career, but something tells me it won’t be sustained.

Commish’s Pick: LOSS vs Brandon

Floyd $$
McGregor

10 Max

RECORD: 1-4
LAST: 10
TREND: uparrow 0

I think Max actually has a much better team than his record indicates. He is 1-4 but trails 1st place Grace by just 3 in total points. Better weeks are ahead for the Russian.

Commish’s Pick: WIN vs Fernando

11 Min

RECORD: 2-3
LAST: 11
TREND: uparrow 0

Min’s trade was looking brilliant after news broke that Gronk was sitting. The match result however, not so brilliant. Engram donuted while Howard mustered just 7 points in a 1 point loss last week to Roger. While Min got the first laugh, it looks like Roger got the last laugh. Excellent interview on the podcast though!

Commish’s Pick: LOSS vs John A

Goodbye
SZN

12 Ravi

RECORD: 2-3
LAST: 12
TREND: uparrow 0

Not sure why Ravi thinks his season is over. His team is still in the mix but he will definitely need to shore up the RB position if he’s going to win many more games this year.

Commish’s Pick: WIN vs Daryl

49ers

13 Brandon

RECORD: 0-5
LAST: 13
TREND: uparrow 0

Ouch. This might be the worst start for any manager in B-LG history. Lucky for Brandon, his opponent this week (Jason) has a ton of byes so I think he rights the ship and gets his first W here.

Commish’s Pick: WIN vs Jason

Dont get
Lynched

14 Daryl

RECORD: 2-3
LAST: 14
TREND: uparrow 0

Why did I promote Daryl to the BCS division again? After a pretty strong 2016 season, lil D needs to get going quickly if he intends on staying in the BCS division next year.
